Wood
The emerging market for wood chip is as a renewable fuel for energy production.
So why use recycled wood? There are advantages apart from the obvious one of being a sustainable alternative to using virgin timber. Recycled wood has a moisture content of around 20% compared to the 60-70% moisture in virgin wood, so it makes economic sense to buy recycled wood chip; it also lasts longer and utilises less energy during processing.
Investment and technological advances allows Pearce Recycling to add wood recycling services to our portfolio.
The latest wood shredder to be commissioned at our Material Recycling Facility (MRF) is capable of processing over 20 tonnes an hour. It is fitted with an over-band magnet and trommel screens to reduce contaminants.
The use of wood is highly dependent on its type and quality; better grades of wood are put to use in a variety of ways from joinery to carcassing for furniture, while lower grades of wood are used for packaging and fencing material.
